As parents we have already too much on our plate. We have to navigate through parenting and protect our child's minds, health, and make an attempt at keeping them safe in private and public settings. So here are some tips and possibly helpful information that can ease our burden of making these hard choices.
Should I a share current events with my child?
It is your choice, and yours only so as I write this please know it is just my perspective. And the delivery is very important. I don't want to scare my children since keeping their innocence is my priority this way they have the best childhood possible. So describing current events to children has to be explained in PG terms. Here is how I explain:
Explain as a story or pretend toy making it easy for them to understand enough that they can re-explain to another child. Remind them that they are safe and that they have to be smart, and aware to keep themselves and others safe.
What can I do to keep my family safe?
Take survival training classes. I have even signed up for shooter training in case of a public emergency such of that of the Las Vegas event. You can take suburban survival classes in case of a natural disaster and or tragic events. Invest in yourself and keep your family safe.
Don't get distracted, when in public places put the phone down and look out for your surroundings always figure out where there is an exit.
First Aid is a skill that you should know and can save life's! This alone is a valuable skill to have and you can later teach some basics skills to your child.
Have a plan and make sure everyone knows the plan. This plan should be before any event, to evacuate your town and in plan b on who kids will be cared for.
The most important thing to do is to keep your head out of the clouds and make this a possibility in your future. But keep your emotions leveled and positive thinking like knowing you will always be protected no matter what happens the universe is always in your favor. And keep on going your day to day life as best as you can.
